General questions

What does a notary public do?

A notary public verifies the identity of the people signing a document, confirms they are signing willingly, administers oaths when needed, and completes a notarial certificate with a signature and seal. Each act is recorded in a notary journal.

What ID do I need for a notary appointment?

Bring a current, unexpired government-issued photo ID, such as a Texas driver license or ID card, a U.S. passport, a driver license from another state or a U.S. military ID. Every signer needs their own.

Does Notable Notary offer mobile notary services?

Yes. Notable Notary travels to homes, offices, hospitals, nursing facilities, businesses and other agreed-upon locations across Arlington, Fort Worth, Dallas and the surrounding DFW area.

How much does a notary cost in Texas?

Texas law sets the maximum fee a notary may charge for each notarial act. Travel for mobile appointments is quoted separately and agreed before the visit, so you know the total in advance.

Can a notary give legal advice or prepare my document?

No. A notary public who is not an attorney cannot give legal advice, prepare legal documents or tell you which certificate to use. Please bring a completed document.

Should I sign my document before the appointment?

No. Bring it unsigned. Many notarial acts require you to sign in front of the notary, and signing early can mean starting again with a fresh copy.

Can you notarize for someone in the hospital?

Yes, when the signer is alert, able to communicate directly with the notary, understands the document and has acceptable ID. Let the nursing staff know a notary is visiting.

How do I book a notary appointment?

Use the Book Your Notary Appointment form, call or text 1-888-421-2939, or send an inquiry by email to sign@yournotablenotary.com.

Questions by service

General Notary Services

What is the difference between an acknowledgment and a jurat?

An acknowledgment confirms that you are who you say you are and that you signed willingly. A jurat adds an oath: you swear or affirm that the contents of the document are true. The office receiving the document usually decides which one it needs.

Can I sign the document before the appointment?

For a jurat you must sign in front of the notary. For an acknowledgment it is safest to wait as well. Bring the document unsigned unless you have been told otherwise.

Can you notarize a document for a family member?

A notary should not notarize a document in which they have a personal or financial interest. If the document involves my own family, I will refer you to another notary.

Mobile Notary Services

Where does Notable Notary travel?

Notable Notary travels across Arlington, Fort Worth, Dallas and the surrounding DFW area, including Grand Prairie, Mansfield and Irving. If you are further out, ask; longer trips can often be arranged.

How is the travel fee worked out?

The travel fee depends on distance, time of day and how many stops are involved. It is quoted and agreed before the appointment and is separate from the notarial fees set by Texas law.

Can you come to a hospital or nursing home?

Yes. The signer must be alert, able to communicate and able to understand what they are signing, and they need an acceptable ID. Let the nursing staff know a notary is visiting.

Affidavits & Sworn Statements

Do I have to swear on anything?

No. You can take an oath or make an affirmation, which carries the same legal weight without a religious reference.

Can you notarize an affidavit that is not in English?

I need to be able to communicate directly with you and to read the notarial certificate. The certificate must be in English; ask before booking if your document is in another language.

Power of Attorney Documents

Can my parent sign a power of attorney in the hospital?

Yes, if they are alert, can communicate with me directly and understand what they are signing. If I have doubts about awareness or willingness, I will not complete the notarization.

Does the agent need to be at the signing?

Usually not. The person granting the power must be present with ID. Some forms include an agent acknowledgment that can be signed separately.

Real Estate & Loan Documents

Can you do a closing at my home?

Yes. Many refinance and seller signings are done at the kitchen or dining table. Book a mobile appointment and tell me the title company involved.

How long does a loan signing take?

A refinance package usually takes about an hour. Seller packages are shorter. It depends on the number of pages and the questions you have for your lender.

Wills & Estate-Related Documents

Does a will need to be notarized in Texas?

A will does not have to be notarized to be valid, but a self-proving affidavit, which is signed before a notary with the witnesses, can make probate simpler. Your attorney can tell you whether to include one.

Can you come to a nursing facility for an estate signing?

Yes. Book a mobile appointment and let the facility know a notary is visiting. The signer must be alert and able to understand the documents.

Business Documents & Agreements

Can you notarize for several employees in one visit?

Yes. Group appointments at your office are common. Tell me the number of signers and documents when you book so the visit is planned properly.

Do you keep copies of our documents?

No. Notable Notary does not copy or keep your documents. Texas requires a journal entry for each act, which records details such as the date, the document type and the signer’s ID.

School & Parental Consent Documents

Does a minor travel consent letter need to be notarized?

It is not always required by law, but airlines and border officers often ask for one when a child travels with one parent or without parents, and a notarized letter carries more weight.

Do both parents need to be there?

Each parent signs in front of a notary. If one parent is elsewhere, they can sign before a notary in their own location and you combine the documents.

Vehicle-Related Documents

Does a Texas title need to be notarized?

A Texas title transfer usually does not require notarization. Some out-of-state titles and specific forms do. Check the form or ask the county tax office before booking.

Certified Copy Services

Can you certify a copy of my birth certificate?

No. Birth, death and marriage certificates are public records, and certified copies must come from the issuing office, such as Texas Vital Statistics or the county clerk.

Other Documents Requiring Notarization

How do I know if my document needs a notary?

Look for a notary block, the words "sworn", "subscribed" or "acknowledged", or instructions to have it notarized. If you are unsure, send a description and I will tell you.
